Sunday Studio Session
Your Mentored Studio Time
These Sunday sessions aren’t lessons! This is dedicated workshop studio time for turners who can already work safely and independently. You have six hours at your own lathe, working on your own projects, with light-touch mentoring when you need it.
Some turners come to repeat forms until they click. Others bring a tricky piece that's been sitting on their bench for months and need some advice.
A few just want calm, focused turning time with good company.
£65 per person | Sunday | Maximum 4 students
Who is this Session for?
Turners who can mount work and turn a simple bowl without supervision. Those who've completed a beginner or intermediate course (here or elsewhere). Anyone wanting regular practice time with occasional guidance. Not suitable for beginners. Not suitable for complete beginners.
You’ll have use of the workshop, with me present to assist, advise, and keep the atmosphere relaxed and creative.
The balance is gentle: you work independently, but I’m always there if you need help with form, tool use, or finishing touches.
You are welcome to:
Work on personal projects.
Practise techniques or repeat forms.
Explore new designs and ideas.
Chat with others or enjoy quiet focus — whichever you prefer.
Your Mentor - Martin Saban-Smith RPT
Martin has been teaching turning wood since 2018, bringing a photographer's eye for proportion and form to the lathe. Martin’s teaching approach is patient, with room for questions, the understanding that mistakes are steps towards skill, and that learning is more process over perfection, community over competition.
