Aurora

Wallhanging

Friday & Saturday 10th & 11 September 2027

£215 per person | ONE Day Class: Friday 10th & Saturday 11th September 2027 | Maximum 5 students

Bookings Open 9pm, 10th November 2026

Emma first created a piece like this a decade ago, and put it onto social media in the summer of 2026, where it immediately sparked a storm with its striking design: a carved rocky base set against a gorgeous, smooth background, with beautiful airbrushed accents that create the Aurora in bright pinks and greens, with hints of bright white stars.

Of course, we had to have Emma back for a second time in 2027, to teach this intermediate/advanced class at our school in September. She brings genuine passion, infectious energy, and a creative approach to turning that it opens up new possibilities at the lathe.

This special one day class runs on both Friday 10th and Saturday 11th September 2027. Bookings are first-come, first-served. A waiting list is available should your preferred date be sold-out.

What you’ll make

You’ll make your own Aurora wall hanging like the one below at 10 inches across, from sycamore.

Emma will take you through each stage of the piece in turn. You’ll turn the sycamore first, then carve the rocky base with rotary tools and dry-brush it to bring out the texture. After that you’ll airbrush the aurora and its stars across the background, and finish the whole piece ready to hang. By the end of a busy dat, you will have your own finished unique wall hanging to take home.

Who is this Class for?

Due to the technical aspects of turning this piece, we expect students to be at least at an intermediate level. Students booking onto this course should be competent bowl turners, be able to mount a piece to the lathe safely and securely, and be able to turn confidently without supervision.
