Emma Cook: Centrifuge Platter

We're delighted to welcome Emma Cook back to The Woodturning School. She brings genuine passion, infectious energy, and a creative approach to turning that it opens up new possibilities at the lathe.
During this course, we will be turning two or more platters in order to decorate them using the centrifugal force of the lathe.
This technique has been used over the years by various woodturners, but that is because it is SO MUCH FUN! Each time you use it you get a unique finish, meaning you can achieve a variety of results all from this one colouring technique alone (with just a few tweaks).
We will be using paints and Chameleon projects to create vibrant and eye-catching designs on the platters, and there will be a good bit of discussion surrounding colour matching and how to get the best out of the products you use.
Definitely a great course to let your creativity go wild (although we will try to keep Martin's workshop relatively paint-free!).
Who is this Class for?
Although the turning requirements for this class are relatively basic, a little knowledge of woodturning would be beneficial to gain the most from the course.

This time she's sharing two of her signature techniques the faux hollow form and her hand-carved banded bowl giving students the chance to learn skills that go beyond conventional turning into carving and colour finishing. It's going to be a great day.

The day
9am: Meet at the Garden Centre Coffeeshop
9.30am: Workshop begins
12.30pm: Lunch at the Coffeeshop (included)
1.00pm: Carry on
2.30pm: Coffee break
4pm: Finish and tidy.Included: All timber, tools, pen kit, consumables, safety equipment.
Payments
A deposit of 30% is required to secure your booking. This deposit is non-refundable in the event of cancellation by the client. It covers buying materials and advertising your space in the event of cancellation. Amendments can be made up to 14 days before the date for a £10 admin fee.
