Emma Cook: Carved Bowl

Turning Beyond the Lathe

£185 per person | Saturday 27th June 2026 | Maximum 5 students

Emma's calabash-style bowl with its hand-carved band has become her signature piece. You'll turn the bowl, add the carved decoration, then bring it to life with colour, transforming a simple form into something that stops people in their tracks.

This is where turning meets other craft skills. The lathe gives you the form; carving and colour give it personality.

Who Is This Class For?

  • Turners with some experience who want to explore carving and colour. You'll need basic bowl turning skills, but no carving experience is required. Emma teaches from first principles.

  • Those looking to create distinctive, recognisable work. If you want your pieces to stand out, this class shows you how.

  • Anyone curious about where turning meets other craft skills. Woodturning doesn't have to stop when the lathe stops. This class opens the door to what comes next.

Your Tutor - Emma Cook RPT

We're delighted to welcome Emma Cook back to The Woodturning School. Her previous visits have been hugely popular with students, and it's easy to see why: Emma brings genuine passion, infectious energy, and a creative approach to turning that opens up new possibilities at the lathe.

This time she's sharing two of her signature techniques the faux hollow form and her hand-carved banded bowl giving students the chance to learn skills that go beyond conventional turning into carving and colour finishing. It's going to be a great day.

Emma is Chair of the Register of Professional Turners, and a sought-after demonstrator at clubs throughout the country. You can see more of her work on her YouTube channel.
