Summer Preview: Long Days and Lathe Time
As spring turns to summer, the workshop calendar shifts. Longer days mean more turning time. Warmer temperatures make the workshop more comfortable. And the rhythm of the year offers natural pauses – holidays, garden time, outdoor life – that can paradoxically make workshop sessions feel more precious.
Looking ahead to summer at The Woodturning School, we have some highlights worth noting. Our Sunday Studio sessions continue throughout summer for those who want regular, unhurried time to work on their own projects with guidance available. These sessions suit turners who've completed beginners' training and want space to develop without the structure of a formal class.
The new Introduction to Hollowing class launches, taking bowl turners into the more challenging territory of closed or partially-closed forms. Hollowing requires different tools, different techniques, and different ways of thinking about the work. It's the natural next step for anyone who's mastered open bowl forms.
Summer is also when gift voucher holders finally book. If you received a voucher at Christmas, or for a spring birthday, and haven't used it yet – now's the time. Classes book well in advance, and the popular dates go first.
