Emma Cook’s Carved Bowl Class

We're delighted to welcome Emma Cook back to The Woodturning School. Her previous visits have been hugely popular with students, and it's easy to see why: Emma brings genuine passion, infectious energy, and a creative approach to turning that opens up new possibilities at the lathe.
Emma is one of the few professional female woodturners in the UK, a member of the Register of Professional Turners, and a sought-after demonstrator at clubs throughout the country. You can see more of her work at thetinyturner.co.uk and on her YouTube channel.
What You'll Make
Emma's small calabash-style bowl with its hand-carved band has become a bit of a signature piece for Emma. You'll turn the bowl, add the carved decoration, then bring it to life with colour, transforming a simple form into something that stops people in their tracks.

Is This Class For You?
This workshop is suitable for turners with some experience who want to expand their creative range. You should be comfortable mounting wood and have basic bowl-turning experience.
Not suitable for complete beginners. If you're new to turning, start with our Two Day Beginners class first.
No carving experience is required. Emma will teach you from first principles.

Book up to 9 Months in advance. Bookings close 15 days before date.
Use the calendar to select the next available date of your chosen class.
Select the number of people you wish to book.
Click on the start time below the calendar, then choose 'Select and Continue’.
Add your name, mobile number and email address.
Indicate the name(s) of the person(s) coming and their level of experience.
Pay your non-refundable deposit of 30% of the booking total.
Your card details will be securely stored with the payment gateway (Stripe).After deposit payment has been made, a confirmation email will be sent to you.
Fourteen Days before the day, we will remind you that we will take your between 10 and 14 days before the class using the stored card details. A receipt will be sent.
You will receive your final joining instructions five days before the day. If you booked for someone else, please make sure you forward these details to them.

Your Day Includes:

Timings
- 9.00am: Meet at the Tree House Coffee Shop at the Garden Centre.
- 9,30am: Start to make shavings!
- 12.30pm: Lunch at the coffee shop
- 1.00pm: More shavings to complete the project pieces
- 4.00pm: End of the day, sweep and tidy.
The day may run over to give everyone time to finish their pieces. -

Payment, Changes & Cancellations
- A deposit of 30% is required to secure your booking. This deposit is non-refundable in the event of cancellation by the client. It covers, buying materials and advertising your space in the event of cancellation.
- Amendments can be made up to 14 days before date for £10 admin fee.
- Cancelling within 14 days will forfeit all monies paid.

Her previous visits have been hugely popular with students, and it's easy to see why: Emma brings genuine passion, infectious energy, and a creative approach to turning that opens up new possibilities at the lathe.
This time she's sharing two of her signature techniques — the faux hollow form and her hand-carved banded bowl — giving students the chance to learn skills that go beyond conventional turning into carving and colour finishing. It's going to be a great day.
